Our Story

Inc. Consulting was founded in 2019 with a simple belief: recruitment should feel human.

From the start, the focus was simple: be a recruitment partner that people could trust. One that listened properly, communicated clearly, and treated clients and candidates like individuals, not numbers. That meant taking the time to understand people, being upfront about what’s realistic, and delivering work that actually makes a difference.

As the business grew, so did the team. People joined not just for the brand, but for the culture: collaborative, determined, and down-to-earth.

By the end of 2025, the business had evolved well beyond its early structure. We refreshed our brand, evolved our values, and invested in our team. We introduced our 9-day fortnight, expanded our employee benefits and training offering, and focused on building a culture where people can do their best work without burning out. We also embedded ourselves deeply into the Sheffield business community through partnerships, events, and honest conversations about issues that matter.

Today, we work across the UK on a broad mix of multi-disciplinary roles, supporting organisations that value straightforward communication, honest consultancy, and a personal approach. We’re not a CV-sending service - we listen, ask the right questions, and put the work in to make sure the match is right for the long term.

And we’re not stopping here.

We’re launching IncInsights - a space where we can share practical advice, honest insights, and conversations with senior leaders and experts from across our network. It’s our way of opening up the knowledge we use every day and making it accessible to the people and organisations we support.

We're expanding IncExecutive, building on our existing success at the senior and board level, taking on more executive searches with the insight-driven approach we're known for - as well as discretion, in-depth research, and targeted outreach.

We’re developing IncPartners in 2026, strengthening our links with specialist consultancies across ED&I, coaching, and HR. It’s designed to sit hand in hand with our recruitment work, giving clients a more cohesive, joined-up experience - especially when they’re navigating change, growth, or restructuring.

These aren’t revolutionary initiatives - they’re natural extensions of the work we are already experienced in and passionate about. Thoughtful, grounded, people-centred support that makes a meaningful difference to the organisations we partner with.

Our Timeline

2019
  • Inclusive Consulting launched in November 2019 from a desk in Emma’s spare bedroom. A far cry from the fancy offices she and Alex had left behind, but determined to build a business based on care, courage, and a commitment to doing things properly.

2020
  • Covid disrupted just about everything, but the business kept moving forward. We shaped our values, put plans in place, and began building the relationships with clients and candidates that still underpin the way we work today.
2021
  • We moved into our first real office, a Grade II listed building in Kelham Island - a definite upgrade from the spare room!
  • Emma is shortlisted for the Institute of Directors Agility and Resilience Award (understandable, given she launched a recruitment firm in a pandemic). She didn’t take the win, but being highly commended was a proud moment.
  • We hired our first placement student, Libby, who supported our sourcing and systems before going on to secure a place on the highly competitive Civil Service Fast Stream.
2022
  • Anna Hunt (née MacDonald) joined the business after six years in a FTSE 250 recruitment firm, quickly becoming an integral part of the team and bringing extensive experience and knowledge in the qualified finance market space.

2023
  • Nathan joined as our second placement: a Journalism MA who strengthened our search and communications function. He’s now working in broadcast journalism, appearing on the BBC and beyond. Nate, remember us when you inevitably become famous!
  • We were shortlisted for the unLTD Awards for Best Recruitment or HR Consultancy.
  • We start delivering several coaching workshops through our external partners, supporting individuals and teams with a range of challenges and goals.
2024
  • Becki joined as Operational Director after progressing into senior leadership within a FTSE 250 recruitment business. She brought multi-discipline expertise and a very clear approach to strengthening our operations, systems, and long-term direction.
  • We introduced our 9-day fortnight and broadened our wellbeing benefits - giving the team more balance whilst keeping standards high.
  • As the post-Covid boom settled, we restructured from separate search and recruitment teams into full 360° consultants to create consistency, clearer communication, and a better experience for clients and candidates.
  • With support from an external marketer (and plenty of honest client feedback), we evolved our values, brand, and culture.
  • We also joined the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and The Company of Cutlers, becoming more embedded in the city’s business community.
2025
  • Having made a marked difference to our operations, culture, and overall direction, Becki became a Partner, helping guide the business into its next chapter.
  • We partnered with organisations to deliver ED&I workshops, supporting more inclusive hiring and leadership practices.
  • Inclusive Consulting becomes Inc. Consulting, complete with new branding, evolved values, and a new website with accessibility features.
  • We were again shortlisted at the unLTD Awards for Best Recruitment or HR Consultancy.
  • We spoke at several events across the region, including Becki speaking at Sheath's Leadership Unleashed event for International Women’s Day, and both Emma and Becki speaking at multiple unLTD sessions on topics ranging from neurodiversity and social mobility to the realities of running a small business.
2026
  • We partner with Sheffield Hallam Business School on their Consultancy Project module, giving final-year students the chance to work on a live project and gain practical experience before graduating.
  • Our new CRM and internal system upgrades go live, improving efficiency and giving our team more time to focus on people rather than admin.
